This month BridgeKidz are learning all about trust and how we can trust in God. In keeping with our lesson, I wanted to take a moment to share a personal experience of a time when my family had to remember to trust God.
Before Sean and I moved here to Richmond, we lived in Woodbridge, VA near Washington D.C. Everything is a lot more expensive there and we were really struggling to make ends meet. Sean was working full time at Best Buy in Geek Squad and I was working two part time jobs – one as the Children’s Director at a church and one in a cute little shop that sold and designed wedding invitations and other paper products. Sean and I would end up putting in a lot of overtime at our jobs too. Even with both of us working full time hours and having the cheapest 1 bedroom apartment we could find, we were not able to pay our bills every month without dipping into savings.
Eventually, our savings were gone. And then we found out we were expecting our first baby. We didn’t know what to do! We were already doing every possible thing we could to save money and we knew there was no way we could afford a baby. Through all of this we knew that we had to TRUST GOD and to remember that He knew more than we knew – more than we could see.
We prayed to God and decided to just trust that He was going to take care of us. Very soon after this, a friend that I knew in Chesapeake, VA that I hadn’t heard from in a long time, contacted me and told me about a job opening in Richmond and suggested that I apply for it. Richmond is where my parents live and where I grew up so I was pretty excited.
But I thought, who would want to hire someone who was going to have to go on maternity leave only three short months after arriving there? But God knew. God knew that Ironbridge Church would.
Pastor Mark said the day I was hired, “And look, I love it, you’re already adding to the church attendance!” We are so thankful that God brought us to Ironbridge Church and it all came because we decided to TRUST GOD and give it all to Him.
What We Are Learning
This month our preschoolers will learn “I can trust God.” They will hear the stories of Noah, Jonah and Naaman. We want to make sure our preschoolers know they can ALWAYS trust God. No matter where they go, what happens or who the people are in their life, they can always, always, ALWAYS trust God.
Memory Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Proverbs 3:5
Our elementary students will learn about putting your confidence in someone you can depend on. If we don’t trust, we might miss the opportunity to watch God show up and do what He can do. Throughout the Bible we see different people who have put their trust in God in the midst of some unbelievable circumstances. Elementary kids will hear about Joseph this month and the incredible trust he had that God would get him through difficult situations. Putting our trust in God and the people He’s put in our lives isn’t always easy. That’s why we’re taking the month of September to see what God says about trust.
Memory Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
